Drawings From The Past

Read Time:4 Minute, 4 Second

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another post. I hope you are all doing well. Recently, I looked at some art I made in the past. Some of it, I actually kind of liked. So, I decided to share some of it with you!

The first drawing I’m about to show you is one of the first ones I’ve made since I got back into drawing. I was scrolling through the drawing subreddit (r/drawing) when I suddenly got really inspired and motivated to pick up drawing. I didn’t have that much experience in drawing, but we all know that ‘practice makes perfect’. Right now, I won’t say I’m a great artist, not by any means. However, I think I’ve improved over time, which is exactly what I wanted. Also, by just continuing doing what I do, I learn new things every time. So never be demotivated when you can’t seem to get something right. Just keep trying and eventually, you’ll get there.

But enough dwelling, let’s get into the first drawing. Back when I drew this, I didn’t have that much experience with clean linework. I didn’t have the confidence to ‘just draw something’. Because of this, I intensively used a ruler for this drawing. As you can see below, the drawing is based on two (symmetrical) triangles. It actually took me quite some time to get these triangles the right size and aligned right. In the end, I think they were almost perfect. Then I drew something in them. I was really proud when I finished drawing this one, as it was the first drawing of mine that actually yielded a result. The drawing can be seen below!

Not much later after drawing the triangle thingy, I started working on another one. This next drawing is (one of) the easiest ones I’ve ever made. I wanted to show it to you because I wanted to show that you don’t have to make something extremely over the top to still make something nice. Sometimes an easier drawing can be just as good as a complex one. This is yet another reason to not be scared to do something when you don’t have any experience with it yet. This is especially the case for art. Art isn’t a competition about which piece is better. It’s a way of expressing yourself. Also, I think it is really cool that you can see your progression this way.

The second drawing is a simplified dandelion. It is basically a stem with a circle on it. This circle has all of these little fluffy things on it (that you can blow away). That’s all there is to it. My attempt at drawing it can be seen below.

As you can see, I still used my rules quite a lot for this drawing. After drawing this, I practised some drawings without using a ruler. The first of them went horribly wrong, but after some time, I actually got quite familiar with it. The next and final drawing I want to show to you was actually made not too long ago.

In this drawing, I didn’t use a ruler at all. Also, this is the first drawing where I attempted blending colours with my pencils. In this drawing, I tried recreating a sunset (or was it a sunrise?). I actually really liked the result of this drawing. The only thing I didn’t like was the curvature of the earth. It is way too much and not symmetrical. However, the colour blending went really great! All in all, I’m quite happy with how it turned out. The result can be seen below.

So that’s it! Some of the drawings I made in the past. I hope you liked reading this post. If you did, consider subscribing to the e-mail newsletter. Make sure to comment something below if you like to!

I’d also like to tell you that my latest single ‘Ship Has Sailed’ is finally available everywhere (Spotify, iTunes, YouTube Music, etc.), so make sure to check that one out if you haven’t already.

That’s all from me. Have a great day and take care!

Treatey out
