Hello everyone!
Welcome back to a new post! As I said in my last post, today is the day that I released my third single. The track is called ‘Ship Has Sailed’. My previous track ‘Catalyze’ was released 5 weeks ago. Make sure to check that one out as well if you haven’t already. It took me quite some time to put this new track together, but I’m happy with how it turned out!
In this song, I challenged myself to not use any kind of drums at all. Of course, I used a lot of piano. Because of this, and because of the fact that I used a lot of minor chords, it has a kind of a sad vibe to it. There are a lot of different build-ups in this song. There are parts with a slower melody, that turn into a faster melody. There are different string sections that come and go. There’s a guitar that joins in at certain times, etcetera.
Because there are a lot of build-ups, the song starts out slow, with not that many instruments (just 2 piano tracks and some strings). Below you can hear the intro of the song (right before the vocals start).
After the intro, there are two verses. These two verses build up to the first chorus. The song is called ‘Ship Has Sailed’. So, of course, it’s a phrase that is in the chorus. Ship has sailed means that a certain opportunity has passed. For instance, because you kept postponing it, or didn’t do what you had to do. You can probably apply this to some event in your life. It is also yet another way to remind you that if you really want (to do) something, you should just go for it. A part of the chorus can be heard below.
If about ten years ago, you would have asked me: “Guus, what is your favourite part of this song?” (Doesn’t really matter which song). I would have probably said: “The bridge”. Nowadays I still really like bridges, even though I wouldn’t say the bridge is the best part of every song. I just really think it is nice to suddenly have a very different part of a song. Also, a lot of the times, a lot of instruments go away during the bridge, leaving for instance only some piano or some guitar. I really like this. It really switches up the vibe a bit.
So, you guessed it, I also added a bridge in this song. Below you can hear the end of the bridge and the beginning of a verse.
So, that’s it! yet another song released. I really hope you like it. Right now, it’s only available on YouTube, as the delivery to other platforms is taking a bit longer than usual. In no more in a week, I expect it to be available everywhere (Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, etc.). Also, make sure to let me know what you think in the comments! I’d really appreciate it if you shared it with someone you think would like it!
Stay safe, stay positive and ’till next time!
