Yveltal, The Dark Bird

Read Time:3 Minute, 46 Second

Hello everyone!

It had been quite a while, but welcome back to a new post! I hope you are having a great day and are doing well. Don’t forget to take some time off sometimes! Some enjoyment and relaxation every day are really important. So, nice job reading my blog post!

As you might have seen by my other posts, I like to draw Pokémon characters. I’ve drawn many Pokémon characters in the past. However, I noticed that almost every single one of them is a drawing of a cute, little Pokémon. That’s why today I chose to switch it up a bit. After Pikachu, Shinx, Grookey and other cute Pokémon, I chose to draw Yveltal.

Yveltal is a big, scary, black-red bird. I’ll tell you more about him in a bit. First of all, let me show you my sketch with pencil, followed by the overlined version with my fineliner.

As you can see, there’s a lot more to this Pokémon than to the previous ones. I must admit, it was quite hard to get all of the lines to feel right. However, I was really happy with how my final sketch turned out.

I promised to tell you a little bit more about Yveltal, so I’ll tell you a bit. Yveltal is a legendary Pokémon of the Unova region. A legendary Pokémon is a Pokémon which only exists once in a region. It is really powerful and a major aspect in the storyline of the game/television series. It is also genderless, and therefore can’t breed. Yveltal’s types are, unexpectedly, flying and dark. Every region has a couple of legendaries. So does the Unova region. Yveltal’s counterpart is Xerneas (look it up if you like).

As I said before, Yveltal’s main colours are black and red. For this drawing, I chose to colour in the red parts first. I tried creating some ‘3D-feel’ by using different shades of red. I primarily used my water markers for this drawing. Water markers go down very easily and blend a bit. I used three different shades of red and combined them. The drawing after I added in the red parts can be seen below. I was pretty happy with how the colouring turned out thus far.

As you might know, in addition to drawing, I also like to make some music. It has been quite a while since I released my last single ‘Not Too Late’. However, I’m happy to announce that December 1st, I will be releasing my new single called ‘Moonlight’. Down below, you can hear the intro of the song! I hope you like it. Make sure to give it a listen once it drops.

Intro of ‘Moonlight’

After completing the red parts, I started focussing on the ‘black’ parts. While I’m saying ‘black parts’, I actually mean different tones of grey. I used five different shades of grey to get some depth into the drawing. It actually went quite smoothly. Finally, I had to add his eye. His eye is some kind of bright blue. When colouring in his eye, I accidentally made a bit too much blue. His pupil is white, so this was actually some sort of issue. I fixed this by using a white gel pen. This white gel pen made sure his pupil was big enough.

After doing this, the drawing was done! The final result can be seen below.

There we have it! Another Pokémon drawn. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. To be honest, this was the hardest Pokémon I attempted to create yet, so I think I did a good job. The shading can be better in some areas, but I’m not complaining.

Finally, be sure to check out my new single ‘Moonlight’ on December 1st.

It has been a pleasure. See you later!
